Why would a retired biochemist, who spent 40 years working on the development of automated blood testing analyzers for clinical laboratories, want to start a photography business? The answer is really pretty simple. My life long passion for photography was never fulfilled while I needed to focus on a challenging career and raising a family, so now is my chance. I now have the time to immerse myself in the necessary learning , and I have brought my skills to a professional level. When I contemplated doing this as an amateur, it seemed to me that I might be better able to share my photography with others as a professional. And being a member of Professional Photographers of America for the past two years has provided me with incredible educational opportunities as well as offering a rich source of inspiration.
Since this is my first blog post, I thought I would share a couple of my favorite photos, one a landscape and the other a portrait.
This landscape was taken on the Connecticut coast at dawn. The contrast of the soft morning light and quiet sea with the fine detail of the bare trees creates a serene mood the I find very appealing:
This portrait is of a 2 year old girl entranced by Angry Birds on an iPhone with her face illuminated by the phone's screen. Is it one of my favorites because it is a good photo, or because the subject is my grand daughter? I hope it is both!
